If you’re a programmer and wondering should programmers learn to design? then read on as I will explain what you must consider before deciding.

As you know, there is nothing wrong with learning to design or program, no matter your profession.

I will tell you those from my own experience because I learned to code and design at the same time. I have worked as a designer as well as a full-stack developer.

Let’s break down the overlaps between programming and designing, which will help you understand the correlation between both fields on a project.

User Interface (UI)

Designers create the user interface that defines the layout, color schemes, typography, and all the visual elements based on the project.

Programmers then use these design codes and layout specifications and using code they will develop it on the live/test application.

User Experience (UX)

Designers create the defined user experience of the app with how the application should be consumed visually for an intuitive and seamless experience.

Programmers will collaborate with the designers to create the required and defined functionality to bring the planned user experience to life.

Front-end Development

This is where most of the designers will end up coding as well, in the front-end development the developer will use HTML, CSS, and Javascript to create the front-end as per the design created by either them or the designer.

This stage is a perfect overlap between the two departments.

Responsive Design & Adaptability

Designers will visualize and implement the responsiveness of the application to better adaptability to give the customers greater access on different sizes of devices & OS.

Programmers will then use multiple libraries or frameworks combined with testing to create the responsiveness of the application to better to suit all the areas of access across multiple devices and OS.

Now, that you have seen the overlap.

Benefits of learning to Design as a programmer

Wider Knowlege

You as a programmer, it is essential to know the basics or even the idea that goes behind creating and coming up with these designs.

You do not right away be a creative genius to learn design, you can start off slowly and go over the process before completely indulging on a design journey.

Develop Applications Faster

When you learn to design, your workflow on your development will get faster and better as now you understand why you need to do what you’re doing.

For example, when you realize why certain fonts and certain elements in placed on a page, you know exactly why it’s there and also will be able to spot any missing elements that the designer may have missed.

Effective Communication

You will be able to bridge the gap in communication between clients, designers, and programmers. Because now you understand all 3 aspects of how things work.

As a programmer who knows design, you will be better equipped with the design language on how you can communicate with designers and you also know the technical details of the programming language.

Holistic Problem Solving

Your approach to problem-solving will be top-notch as you will be able to spot any non-feasible ideas before they even go into the designing process. As you will be able to think from both fronts.

Programmers can now come up with more comprehensive solutions that address both functionality and aesthetics.

Programmers who know the design principles are better equipped to think outside the box and come up with innovative ideas which comes from having both knowledge of design and development.

You as a programmer can push boundaries as to what is possible and what is it and come up with new ways of thinking that only bring out unique products. Which wouldn’t have been possible before.

Regardless of your website being new or an established site you can always come across this issue where your can SERP Disappear.

There could be a variety of factors why this can happen and I am going to cover most of them here and this should give you an answer and hopefully help you fix it.

Why Does SERP Disappear?

Search results can disappear and re-appear on Google and other search engines as they test out your results to find out where is it best relevant to be placed.

Even though a lot of factors do come into play when it comes to testing your search results, it can be concerning if these incidents keep happening at regular intervals.

Read below as I list down some of the most common reasons this can happen to your website and also what you can do about it.

5 Reasons SERP Disappear

Below are the most common reasons your pages or posts can keep fluctuating on Google.

1. Google Algorithm Update

Google regularly updates its algorithm to keep its search results relevant for users. Even though your website might be great and contain only original content.

If your website doesn’t comply with Google’s algorithm update then you will come across a lot of fluctuations.

Google’s core goal is to always give the users the best possible content that is out there and if your website has been affected by it but you truly think that your website is following all the guidelines then you might not need to worry as your ranking will come back.

2. Fairly New Website

When you start a new website Google has no way to tell if you are an expert or just another spammy blog or a website. For this particular reason, they tend to test the waters before they can show your website to all of their audience.

When you publish your first few blog posts, you might notice for the first few days you might be ranking on the first page or so but eventually you will be pushed down.

As more people click on your page and stay there to find what they are looking for the higher your ranking will go but it will take its own time.

A new blog/website might take anywhere from 8-12 months roughly to get a fair position on the SERP. A blog post can achieve its full potential in about a year.

If your blog is new and you see your SERP disappear then don’t bother and just start writing your helpful content and it will grow on its own.

3. Bad Keyword Practice

A lot of people give really bad advice when It comes to SEO and you might have heard that keywords are very good for SEO, though it’s true anything too much is bad for SEO too.

Everything you learn in SEO needs to be done in a healthy, moderate, and natural way. When you tend to write for search engines rather than for people you might end up stuffing a lot of keywords which makes your site look spammy.

If you are having a plugin that shows you how much keyword is needed on a page, don’t force yourself to stuff unnecessary keywords.

Now, if you find your website to be filled with a lot of unwanted keywords on a blog post then you might need to edit them and keep only what’s relevant.

Doing this for your entire site may be necessary. The cleaner and relevant you keep your website the better for users and as well search engines.

4. Spam Content

Even if you have very little content it’s so much better than having a to of content that is spammy. You don’t want to write articles or posts just to get traffic.

Google is much smarter than you think, even if you try your best to cover your spammy content, they’ll know. So, make sure you have only original content.

What if I have spammy content?

If you find your website to have content that you would call spammy, it’s better to remove it and start fresh as those pieces of content aren’t going to do any good for you and your users.

5. Duplicate/Thin Content

This is a very important and complicated topic for newbies to understand. Duplicate/Thin doesn’t mean it’s copied or it’s less in words.

This basically means your website doesn’t have content that provides value to your users and even if you have a post that is 3000+ words and provides no value whatsoever then it’s considered thin.

Another example would be if you are just rewriting content that is already out there without adding your own experience which is still bad for users and Google.

If you find your website to be filled with this, it’s almost always better to restart from the beginning.

6. Bad SEO Practices

Never try to achieve success the easy way, it might work for a very short period of time but eventually Google and users will catch up and you will be at a loss.

Always try to find the best possible way to give value using your website as a tool and focus on the guidelines of Google and you will be safe.

Also, keep in mind that you might want to read more than 1-2 articles or watch 2-3 videos more before you make a decision on how you want to optimize your website.

By doing that, you will make sure you know the concept well enough to not make the mistake of using bad SEO practices.

What can you do for your website?

If your situation falls under one of the above then make sure to get them fixed but if you can’t find any reason as to why SERP disappeared then you might want to wait.

Google Search Console

Make sure to have your GSC set up and go over to your console and see if you have any warning or is there anything you need to fix.

Google Search Console (GSL) will usually tell you what has indexed and what has not. You can utilize Google’s own tool to fix and see your status on the SERP.

Sitemap

This can be very important if you want your website to be discovered and your pages to be indexed. You need to have a sitemap generated for your website.

You can use a plugin on your CMS to generate a sitemap in a matter of a few seconds. If you using WordPress then you can use RankMath to do this for you.

Interlinking

No matter what your site’s category is, Interlinking your website can be very crucial for your users and as well as Google.

This basically means that from one page of your website users need to be able to visit any page they want. Make sure to provide proper navigation on your website.

Orginal Content

This might be obvious, you should always have original content on your website. Take your time to research and come up with the best content you can.

Implement your own way of writing a blog post, use original images on your website, and link out to trusted websites wherever it’s necessary.

If a person visits your venue and posts a picture about it on his profile then like, comment, and share it. Obviously, take it down if the customer doesn’t want you to share.

  • Reply to even negative or positive responses.
  • Respond as soon as you can.

You can only do so much and be on time but these automated tools can help you. You just have to spend a few minutes setting it up and forget about it for almost a week. The reply to messages can also be automated which will make your response time instant.

CloudFlare is the one of the best and easiest service to set up to protect your site. In this Article I’ll be showing you how to setup CloudFlare for your WordPress website.

WordPress sites in General gets attacked on a daily basis. I personally got my site attacked probably more than 1000s of times and I had to figure it out by myself on how to fix it and protect the website.

There are a lot of number of ways to secure your sites and CloudFlare is only of the best ways to do it and also you can get started for free. Even with a basic free plan you’re much more secure than leaving your WordPress site as it is.

Why Use CloudFlare on WordPress?

WordPress in general doesn’t have a great security and it’s very hard to tell where the vulnerability would be. There are a lot of attacks that might happen to your website that you can’t manually stop. We need a service that will help us do that.

CloudFlare will act as a filter before users or even hackers access your website and if there is a bot trying to access your website, CloudFlare will stop the bot from moving forward. This service will shield your website from unwanted sources and automated traffic.

Create an Account in Cloudflare.com

Account creation

You can use your regular email and If you don’t already have an account then go ahead and register with your email address. Make sure it’s a valid one as this is important. You will have to verify your email at a later stage.

Add Your Site

Now that you have created your account, now you need to enter your domain without https://

Once you do that, click add site.

Choose a plan & Continue

Like I mentioned at the start of the article, even the basic plan is good enough to get started. So, choose your plan here and click next.

On the next step CloudFlare will import all your DNS records and ask you to review and click next.

Connect and Verify Your Domain

When you reach to this step, don’t click the “Done, check nameservers” yet. You need to connect your domain name from your domain registar to the new DNS.

Whatever domain name provider you use, the settings are goign to be pretty similar. I use namecheap for my domain. So below is where you need to go and copy paste your new nameservers.

Once, that’s saved. It will take up-to 24-48 hours for the DNS to propagate. Usually it is updated in a few minutes to few hours. Now in the next step, we go back to CloudFlare.

Now click on “Done. Check Nameservers”

If you know about caching and other settings on this page, you are free to choose your desired settings but if you are new to this then below is the summary of settings that I use.

After you clicked “Finish” you should be taken to the next page where you will have to verify your domain. If you see something like the below image then, you have completed the verification.

Configuring your WordPress with the CloudFlare Plugin

Now you need to go to your WordPress Dashbard and once you’re there, navigate to Plugins > Add New

When you’re in the plugin section, now search for “CloudFlare”. Install and activate it.

Once you click on “Save API Credentials” you are done. Now you have successfully configured cloudflare on wordpress for free.

As your website grows it’s always better to upgrade your hosting to something like Google Cloud as it is significantly faster than shared hosting. This text tutorial is written for those who want to quickly install WordPress on Google Cloud using Openlitespeed.

I wrote this so it’s easier for a beginner to follow the steps. You can either watch the video below or read the article and follow along.

Step-By-Step Google Cloud WordPress Installation on Free Tier:-

Create your Google Cloud Account:-

The first step is to go ahead and create an account on google cloud. You can use your regular Gmail account to signup.

  1. Go to https://cloud.google.com/ and click on “Sign in” or  “Get Started for free.”
  2. You need to choose your country and enter your card details and other info.

3.  Once that’s done, you will be redirected to https://console.cloud.google.com/ and you should see a page like this below.

Creating Your Project

  1. After you have successfully signed up, the next step is to create a “New Project”.
  2. Give your Project a “Name”.
  3. Once the project has been created, you need to click on the newly created project.

Marketplace to Install Openlitespeed

Head to the marketplace and search for “WordPress”. Browse until you find “Openlitespeed” and click on it.

We are choosing openlitespeed-wordpress because we will be using openlite as the stack to Install WordPress. After you have click on it, you will see the launch button and click on “Launch

Now it’s time to configure the WordPress deployment. You can follow my settings below or if you know what you exactly need, you can go ahead and input them. If you are just starting out then I would suggest you just follow my settings below.

Make sure you have read the Google Cloud Free Program pricing before you choose or configure. After all, you don’t want to be charged more than what you want.

After you have done that, you should see the deployment manager page.

Reserving Static IP Address:-

We don’t want a dynamic address for the installation as we need to connect the domain name via the IP. So we need to make sure the IP is static and to do that head to Menu > VPC Network > External IP Address.

Once you have reserved your IP, the next step is that we will connect the IP to a domain.

Connecting your Domain Name:-

So, we’ll just be adding two A records on the domain name to connect.

After this process, the DNS Propagation time will vary. It might take anywhere from 24-48 hours to completely propagate throughout the internet.

Installing Let’s Encrypt SSL:-

This step is pretty easy and you can just follow the steps that prompt itself on the command line. First head over to your deployment manager and make sure you have chosen the one that you just installed.

Open up your SSH command line.

After that, you will automatically be prompted to do the following steps and just enter your domain name without WWW and click enter.

If everything went well, you will get a success message and if you do then, you’re done.

Install WordPress:-

Hold on there, we are almost done. All you need to do now is to go to the domain name that you just connected.

Open a new tab and type in https://yourdomain.com/ and you will see the page to Install WordPress. You just need to input your details and you will be taken to the dashboard.

That’s straight forward and the next step is important, so please don’t skip it.

Setup Swap File:-

Swap file creation is pretty simple and it’s always advisable to create one just in case. After all, we don’t want our website to crash or use more storage than what’s required.

just paste these commands one by one and you should be good to go.

You’re done, but below is the command if you want to check your newly created Swap File.

Access Phpmyadmin:-

Accessing PHPMyAdmin is pretty easy unlike in AWS. All you need to do is head over to https://yourdomain.com/phpmyadmin/

the default username is “root

the password can be found in the command line by using the command below:-

sudo sed -n 1p /home/ubuntu/.db_password

sudo sed -n 2p /home/ubuntu/.db_password

Edit PHP.ini File:-

Editing PHP.ini is very handy when you want to configure additional settings. You can do it straight from the command line using the commands below:-

sudo -i

The command for editing the php.ini file

vi /usr/local/lsws/lsphp74/etc/php/7.4/litespeed/php.ini

Once you have edited it, for it to take effect, you need to restart your PHP and the command for that is below:

killall -9 lsphp

Don’t think of this as a big task of real estate marketing instead make this your hobby to explore more and learn.

Reddit is a vast place and there are subtopics for almost anything you can imagine. If you tend to love the idea of the above step which is offering value on forums then you would love to explore Reddit.

The whole reason this is in real estate marketing is that when you build trust with people they would wanna check you out and if they like you they might hire you as an agent or they would refer you to someone they know.

Make sure to have the following:

  • Logo – That actually represents your company visually.
  • Letterhead – A letterhead for your business when you print any document regarding your company.
  • Brand Guidelines – Your brand guidelines should be on point, your branding person or the designer should be able to give you this.
  • Envelope design – Envelope should also contain your branding.

In real estate marketing, when you don’t have brand awareness in your strategy you might be up for some confusion along the way. You see, regardless of what you are marketing and where you are marketing.

If you are running a paid promotion, sponsoring an event, or giving out your brochures if you don’t think about brand awareness you are truly missing out.

There are many free tools out there that you can use to create your visuals for free. There are quite a few videos and articles out there that you can check out and below is one from YouTube.

Google Adwords is super effective and if you have the budget head to Google Adwords and run your campaign. This is not the organic way to get results but its very quick.

Especially if your business is new and you don’t have time to organically execute real estate marketing then use Google Adwords because it will bring in results very quickly.

Google Adsense is another form of advertising you can engage on and you can also bring in leads pretty quick. They are one of the best ad networks in the world right now.

Companies have been using Google Adsense for their real estate marketing for decades now and it’s still effective to this day.

30. Use Snapchat Ads

Snapchat even without the paid promotions it can be great for real estate marketing. Snapchat paid promotions will give a new range of audiences around your locality.

If you are regular in posting you don’t really need to opt-in for Snapchat ads but if you are looking for some quick lead generation then head to Snapchat and run your paid campaign.

31. Use SEO on Your Blog and Website

SEO is the greatest way to improve traffic overall and evergreen traffic on your blog or website. Search Engine Optimization in real estate marketing can bring you leads even when you are sleeping.

I know that sounds silly but I have made my entire income for my business for almost 3 years with just a few days of working on SEO. You can also hire blog writers on Fiverr to write for you.

The hiring people to write part make sure that they know what is SEO and are experienced in it. You don’t want low-quality blog posts in your blogs.

32. Have other Blogs Write About Your Property

This is another great way and has multiple benefits for your real estate marketing. Guest posting or other blogs writing about your properties that can bring traffic to your website or even give you a backlink.

Keep in mind that not every blog is going to write about you and you might need to spend a few bucks to get them to write about you. You can also use emails to reach out to potential blogs.

If that is hard for you to achieve then you can also offer to write them a blog post and in that blog post, you can put probably one link back to your website.

Real estate marketing doesn’t always have to be about digital sometimes and you can use the help of other local businesses around you. Having local business partners you will be in advantage compared to your competitors because it’s the possibilities are endless.

Partner with maybe a construction company or even an investment firm anything that is relevant and where your potential customers will be hanging out.

Offer some value to your partners. You could partner with furnishing companies where you can send in your new customers to where they would be able to shop. The furnishing company keeps your banners in their shop for other customers who are looking to buy properties or even rent out.

As I said, the possibilities are endless and each business is unique and it’s up to you to decide who you want to partner with. You could also try to partner with insurance companies.

Remember I mentioned increase brand awareness? This step will help with that too. In real estate marketing if you want to succeed then you need to make sure your company is everywhere possible.

Sponsoring local events can help you display your products and services to a large number of audiences at once and it can easily get people talking about you.

35. Host Webinars

You as a person can definitely offer some value to other people, right? Why not make it into a webinar and give those values to others. Everybody loves to get value and you could do something like “What to look for when buying properties?”.

You can get a whole bunch of people to your website and your other resources when you put yourself in a place of value. There are a lot of free services out there that you can use to make your webinar.

You can use your social media and other handles to announce your free seminars around. It’s always a good idea to do a free webinar first and then moving into a live seminar.




37. Use Your Properties to Advertise

Property signs are pretty much what I am talking about. It’s free and easy to achieve because all you need to do is put up a sign in your property about the property.

It’s not necessary to just advertise that property, you can advertise your company as a whole. You see, real estate marketing doesn’t always need to be about spending money on ads and promotions.

It isn’t necessary you should always initiate your marketing, for a change you can attend your local seminars around to start networking. Being an agent of a company doesn’t matter here.

If you have been following this guide then just know you can use your creative business card here to give out and also your brochure to get your potential leads.

39. Get on YouTube

YouTube is by far one of the best ways for real estate marketing. Why? Because it’s hot right now and it isn’t going to go down anytime soon. You just need to make a few videos and it gets watched by thousands of people.

You can showcase your properties or you can use YouTube to offer value and bring in relevant users to your business. Having a YouTube channel is a recommended step.

Don’t worry about making Hollywood type of videos, it just needs to be pretty decent enough and helpful for people to see.

40. Make Educational Videos

Finally, show off your skills and also teach them to others. This works because again, it brings brand awareness and spreads your word around.

Even if you are an individual you yourself are a brand right? it can always help to bring in some great clients along the way. You won’t believe how valuable your videos can be.

Currently to my knowledge, I have only found about 1-2 actual helpful videos regarding real estate and real estate marketing. There is still a lot of gaps that need to be filled. You never know you could be the next big thing in the real estate industry. Educational videos are a great way for real estate marketing.

Google Analytics is the best tool to track your website users. If you have a website and you don’t have Google Analytics installed then that should be your next step.

If you have a WordPress website and you would like to install Google Analytics, you have come to the right place. It’s quite easy to install it in WordPress as there are quite a lot of plugins available.

In this tutorial, I am going to answer the following:

What is Google Analytics?

Why is Google Analytics Important?

How to install Google Analytics on WordPress?

What is Google Analytics?

Google Analytics is a web analytics tool that is offered by Google. The web analytics tool gives you a piece of code and once it’s correctly placed on your website, it lets you measure your Return of Investment.

It provides extremely valuable insights into your website. Which will help you create actual strategies to grow your business.

Below are a few things that analytics offers:

Who are your visitors? – It shows you clear cut data on who the audience is and that includes their geographical data as well.

Where are your visitors from? – Apart from the geo-data, it also tells you from which part of the web the users are coming from.

How long are the users spending on your site? – Crucial data that the analytics provides is the average time spent on your site.

How are the users engaging? – Shows how are the users interacting with your website.

Above are a few of the data it provides and it has much more. You can take all those data to track your campaigns and make calculated decisions on your business.

Why is it Important?

Regardless of the fact if you are into the marketing of your website or you are the owner of the website. You will always need to know what is happening with your website.

The data that is taken from the analytics will give a wider understanding of the audience. In any business knowing your customers and audience are very important and that is exactly what it does.

, For example, : If you have an eCommerce website, you need to be able to track your conversion rates and if you aren’t getting any then you will know exactly why and google keeps giving you updates on your website based on the data it collects.

How to Install Google Analytics on WordPress?

The best and easiest way on WordPress to Install is to use a simple and lightweight plugin. Below is a video tutorial if you don’t want to continue to read.

Below are the actual steps to install it via WordPress.

Step 1: Sign up for Google Analytics

The first step to do is to sign up and create a new account for your site if you already don’t have one. Click here to create an account

This is going to be either “Set up for free” or “Get Started”.

Step 2: Log In to your google account.

Once you have filled in your details and logged into your account. You’ll be prompted to the next step.

Step 3: Fill in your details

Make sure to fill in your account name. This is just an account name and only you are going to be able to see it.

Step 4: Choosing what you want to measure

This is important. As we are going to measure the website. Click on the option shown in the image below.

Alright, now that’s done. The next one is important.

Step 5: Details of your website.

Type in your website details and also your category. You need to choose your correct timezone as it will reflect the same in your data. So make sure you have set the correct one.

Step 6: Accept terms & Create your account

Make sure to read the terms and conditions and accept them. It’s also good to read them.

That’s about it for the google analytics side.

Step 7: Logn to your WordPress Dashboard

Step 8: Adding the Plugin

Navigate to Add New Plugin

Navigate to Plugins > Add New

Search for Plugins WP

Search for “Monster Insight”. or alternatively here is the link to the plugin

Step 9: Configuring Monser Insight Plugin for Google Analytics

Launch Monster Insight Wizard

Once the plugin has been successfully installed, on the Monster Insight’s plugin page. Click on Launch the Wizard!

Step 9.1: Choose your website category

Choose website type

Don’t worry about the specific category of your website as that will be on that next step. For now, choose the general category and click on next. Once you choose it, click on “Save and Continue”.

After you’ve reached this page, you can directly click on next as Monster Insight offers a free version of the plugin as well and you don’t need to worry about the license until you want the pro feature.

Click on the “Connect Monster Insights”.

Step 9.3: Choose your Google Account to Allow Monster Insight

Click on the same account you’ve used to create the google analytics account.

Monster Insights needs these data from Google Analytics, so make sure you click on “Allow”.

Step 9.4: Add your website

Now choose your website from the dropdown. The website you just added on the analytics console.

After that, click next!

Completing Steps

That will take you to the new few final pages as shown in the next step.

Step 9.5: Completing Google Analytics Setup

Below are the bunch of settings for the Monster Insights plugin. I would suggest you leave it as it is if you are a beginner. As the default settings are good enough.

Note: You can always change these settings at a later date.

Install Monster Insights

Unless you want to install WPForms you can just skip this step.

Right after you hit the “Finish Setup & Exit Wizard”.  You will be taken to the Monster Insight’s dashboard. Then, you’re done.

Step 10: Navigate to WordPress Dashboard

Here is the summary of your report and by this step, you will be done configuring the plugin. Which we will verify in the next step.



Step 11: Ensure connect connection of the Google Analytics

Use Private window or incognito mode to visit your website to ensure that we have successfully configured it.
